The Gunlocke Company, a premier office furniture manufacturer and member of the HNI Corporation enterprise, is looking for a Product Development Engineering Manager to join their team in Wayland, New York!  The product development team of Gunlocke and HNI Corporation leverage their talents to conceptualize, develop, and support all aspects of new and existing product.  In this role specifically, you will manage and lead a newly assembled team of engineers focused on Product Support activities and initiatives for a specific product category that stretches across multiple operating companies of HNI Corporation. 

This is a key role within our Product Development organization, requiring experience and capabilities managing across multiple functions of the office furniture business, working globally with other HNI organizations, suppliers, and ultimately our valued customers.  To succeed in this role, you will have to be highly organized with close attention to detail and be able to act decisively and responsively in a fast-paced environment.  With this, you will thrive on this team of engineering professionals, empowered to lead and pioneer the direction of product support in this continuously evolving and improving group dynamic. 

Some of the essential aspects of the Product Development Engineering Manager position include:

  • Act as main focal point for addressing product issues raised by end-users, trade partners, operations, purchasing, quality, and other stakeholders in product lines in your specific category.
  • Lead and develop your team of engineering professionals, comprised of several on-site members, as well as several members located at our HNI Engineering Service Center in Pune, India.
  • Promptly communicate issues, potentially make recommendations and/or collaborate with Category Leaders and Product Business Managers for resolution implementations.
  • Oversee and manage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process as required to resolve product issues, including responsibility for monitoring the status and ensuring completion of engineering work as it relates to ECR’s.
  • Coordinate and with HNI Engineering Service Center to complete drafting and modeling work as required.

What it takes:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant product engineering experience, within a manufacturing environment, with 1-2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to collect and utilize data to establish facts and formulate recommendations.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, competing priorities, and drive projects to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and highly organized.
  • Ability to perform effectively with remote teams, and travel moderately when necessary.
