This position is hybrid and located on the Cornell University Campus in Ithaca, New York. You will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although you may be permitted to perform a portion of your work remotely based on business needs.


The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

The capital and space planning function in the Division of Budget and Planning coordinates and collaborates with many campus stakeholders to provide leadership, direction, and support in three primary areas: capital planning, space management and planning, and individual project leadership for major capital projects executed under the direction of the Provost.


The Division of Budget and Planning is comprised of several units to oversee campus-wide operations and services, including the University Budget Office, Institutional Research and Planning, and Capital & Space Planning. The Division provides proactive tools and information in support of university priorities and functions and Cornell's land-grant mission and conducts these functions with professional, balanced, and timely analyses of data, processes, and choices.

What you will do:
Under the supervision of the Director, serve as the delegated Organizational Administrator for the Facilities Inventory System and annually certify the space inventory data for the President and Provost reporting units.


Primary responsibilities for the position include:

  • Maintain accurate space inventory data in coordination with departments that report to the Provost and President and in coordination with other colleges and divisions.
  • Perform routine and non-routine analyses of the space inventory data and related data to create charts, diagrams, and reports to enhance and supplement presentations, project teamwork, and inform space management decision-making.
  • Enhance existing and develop new documentation to facilitate repetition of analyses and reports to support continuity planning.
  • Manage small projects to improve the quality and accuracy of inventory data to enhance space reporting, under the supervision of the Director and in close coordination with staff in the Facilities Information Group in the Division of Facilities and Campus Services and in the academic and administrative units.

Important qualifications for the position include:

  • An associate degree and 4-6 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A proven history of exhibiting a high level of discretion, respect and responsibility for sensitive data and conversations is required.
  • Ability to understand and interpret processes and data needs, utilizing strong stakeholder relationship skills, consensus-building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment, that consistently requires utilizing effective reasoning skills and sound judgement.
  • Must be able to work supportively and inclusively with diverse populations.
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - must be able to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Possess an inquisitive nature to identify and investigate problems.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion in handling and protecting sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven, and deadline-driven environment and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • High-level desktop computing skills and experience with standard business software such as Microsoft Office Suite,Relational Database applications, technical documents, charts, diagrams, reporting applications, and networked information systems.
  • Experience in the development and implantation of standards, procedures, and guidelines to support business processes.

Preferably you have knowledge and experience in Oracle Analytics, OBIEE Answers, integrated workplace management systems (IWMS), other institutional software systems, and have had previous experience in working in a higher education environment.


Position is part-time casual (19 hours per week or less), non-benefits eligible with a planned term of up to two years depending on funding and performance. Compensation is $26.25 to $29.00 per hour based on skills and experience.
